Spot is a series of books by Eric Hill, which were later made into a popular children's animation for BBC television by David McKee's King Rollo Films. First published in 1980, Where's Spot was inspired by the reaction of Eric's 2-year-old son to an advertisement featuring the “Lift-the-Flap” concept. Subsequent Spot books also used the “Lift-the-Flap” concept which has become a standard children’s literature feature. To date, the Spot titles have sold over 50 million copies worldwide.

Later, an animated version of Spot was produced, along with translations into more than 60 languages. The character has also starred in interactive CD-ROMs, as well as appearing "in person" at events throughout the world. The books are much praised by librarians and teachers for encouraging very young children to start reading, and have even been used to teach literacy to adults.

The Snowman and Father Christmas were first published over 25 years ago and have become Holiday classics. The Snowman tells the story (strictly though pictures in the original version) of a young boy's friendship and adventures with a Snowman who comes to life. Published in 13 languages, this classic book has sold over 3 million copies in the US and UK alone. But in the end it is sweet, soothing watercolors combined with a compelling story that lends itself perfectly to seasonal product development.

And Father Christmas shows the reader a wonderfully grumpy but lovable Santa Claus and answers the delightful question of what Father Christmas does for the rest of the year when it’s not Christmas. Both books have been animated and are broadcast every year. Too, there is a haunting musical score which accompanies The Snowman stage show.

For more than 65 years Peterson Field Guides® have set the standard by which other field guides are measured.  Comprehensive and authoritative, they are essential additions to any naturalist’s bookshelf or backpack.

Roger Tory Peterson, one of the world’s greatest naturalists, spent his life studying, painting, and photographing birds. The Peterson Identification System has been called the greatest invention since binoculars, and the Peterson Field Guide Series® is credited with helping to set the stage for the environmental movement.

Briefly, the Peterson Identification System was created by Peterson in 1934 for his first field guide to provide quick, easy identification of birds in the field by observers. It is based on clear illustrations of similar birds with important distinguishing field marks indicated. The birds are arranged in a system of visual categories based largely on their observable traits. 2009 marks the 75th Anniversary of the publication of this beautifully illustrated, important work.
